TRI-LEGEST FE (ethinyl estradiol) · Teva
Tri-Legest Fe is a triphasic combination oral contraceptive (COC) containing the progestin norethindrone acetate and the estrogen ethinyl estradiol. It is indicated for use by females of reproductive potential to prevent pregnancy. As a triphasic regimen, the dosage of hormones varies in three distinct phases over 21 days, followed by 7 days of ferrous fumarate (iron) tablets to maintain the daily habit and provide iron supplementation.
How TRI-LEGEST FE Works
Tri-Legest Fe prevents pregnancy primarily by suppressing the release of gonadotropins (FSH and LH), which inhibits ovulation. Secondary mechanisms that contribute to its efficacy include thickening the cervical mucus, which inhibits sperm migration into the uterus, and inducing endometrial changes that reduce the likelihood of implantation.
