TRI-ESTARYLLA (ethinyl estradiol) · XIROMED
Tri-Estarylla is a combination of norgestimate (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) indicated for use by females of reproductive potential to prevent pregnancy. It is also indicated for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris in patients at least 15 years of age who have achieved menarche and have no contraindications to oral contraceptive therapy. Tri-Estarylla should be used for acne treatment only if the patient also desires an oral contraceptive for birth control.
How TRI-ESTARYLLA Works
This medication prevents pregnancy primarily by suppressing ovulation. Regarding acne, the combination of ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate increases sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and decreases free testosterone; however, the specific relationship between these changes and the reduction of facial acne severity has not been established.
